High Plains Wind Energy
Did you know that wind energy is another form of solar energy? The sun's radiation heats different parts of the earth at various rates during the day. This causes portions of the atmosphere to warm and cool at different times. Hot air rises reducing the atmospheric pressure on the earth's surface as cool air flows in to replace it.The end result being wind!
So how does wind power get converted to usable energy? Air has mass and when it is in motion it contains "kinetic energy". That kinetic energy can be converted into other energy forms like mechanical force or electricity. When wind flows through its turbines, a high plains wind energy system transforms the kinetic energy of wind into mechanical or electrical energy that can be harnessed for practical use, such as supplying your home or business with electricity.
Air has mass, and when it is in motion, it contains the energy of that motion - "kinetic energy."Some portion of that energy can be converted into other forms - mechanical force or electricity -that we can use to perform work.
The Midwestern states (also known as 'plains'states) are ideal for utilizing high plains wind energy.North Dakota alone is capable of producing enough wind-generated power to meet more than one-third of the United States' electricity demand, provided there is enough transmission capacity. With congruent technology and sufficient financial resources, the USA could be well on its way to meeting up to 20% of its electricity needs through high plains wind energy alon.
Until then, we can all do our part by installing a wind turbine on our home or business property to meet our personal power needs. Additional electricity can be stored in a battery-like apparatus for future use or sold to our local power company.
